Grants of up to $30,000 to USA, Canada, and International researchers affiliated with universities and independent research organizations to investigate the benefits of massage. Funding is intended for high-quality, independent research with the potential to contribute to basic knowledge of massage therapy or its application.
Objectives: Awards are granted to support high quality, independent research which contributes significantly and directly to the knowledge of massage therapy and/or its application. Basic, applied, and translational research studies which investigate massage therapy as a wellness, medical, or health/mental health treatment and/or prevention intervention are supported.
Awarded funds must be used for research expenses such as salary support (commensurate with current stipends or salaries), participant costs, equipment and supplies, dissemination expenses; travel and subsistence towards attending the American Massage Therapy Association convention to present project results (required). Any unspent funds must be returned to the Massage Therapy Foundation at the end of the grant period.
Eligible expenses include: Salaries, wages, and/or additional benefits for hourly stipend for those hired to participate in the research project; allowances for the Principal Investigator and collaborators to cover release time from other activities; a stipend for data collection; costs involved in the dissemination of the research; travel and subsistence (using federal per diem rates). Maintenance costs of equipment used in the course of the project, relevant supplies, and special equipment specific to the research proposal may be considered.
