Scholarships of $5,000 to USA, Canada, and International early-career psychologists affiliated with qualified institutions to participate in specialized training programs. Scholarships are intended for applicants working in the fields of counseling or clinical psychology to obtain training in psychopharmacology.

The scholarships are intended to encourage opportunities for psychologists to join healthcare teams and benefit patients who have psychological and medical problems.

Most APF programs allow for a wide range of direct costs.  Examples include (but are not limited to): participant payments, supplies, technology expenses (software, hardware, imaging, etc.), travel to conduct research, travel to disseminate findings, stipend/salary support, course buy out and supplemental training.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:
- Have applied to an APA designated program in psychopharmacology.
- Be an early career licensed psychologist (up to 10 years postdoctoral) in clinical or counseling psychology from programs accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
- Have experience with and commitment to working with patients who are experiencing medical problems in addition to psychological problems.
- Have experience in providing interventions/therapy based on theoretical and research-based conceptualizations of patient-problems and disorders.
- Recognize the need to evaluate the potential benefits, limitations, and dangers of introducing and eliminating psychotropic medications as part of patients' treatment plans.
- Be committed to providing psychological interventions/therapy as the primary treatment for patients.
- Show evidence of enrollment in an APA-designated program before receiving scholarship monies.

Students must be in the first or second semester of training.

Preference will be given to those applicants with current or pending opportunities to work collaboratively with medical professionals in a medical setting (e.g., hospital, clinic, or community health center).

The students' institutions, which must be nonprofit or governmental entities operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.

APF does not allow institutional indirect costs or overhead to be taken out of grant monies. APF does not currently provide funding opportunities for undergraduate students. APF Trustees must wait one year after their term of service before they can be considered for a grant or an award.

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline: March 1, 2021. Applications are due at 11:59 p.m.

APF tries to announce grant recipients approximately two to three months after a grant deadline, though the exact time may take shorter or longer depending on the number of applications received.

APF will distribute funds to the students' institutions. The institution must agree to administer the scholarship before the funding will be released.
