Grants to Pennsylvania and New Jersey nonprofit organizations to benefit underserved women and girls in eligible locations. Applicants must submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a full proposal. Funding may be requested for project support and general operating support. The Foundation primarily funds organizations serving the Greater Philadelphia area or that have a national impact with a local connection.

The Valentine Foundation is a charitable foundation committed to funding organizations and programs that produce significant change in the social, economic, and political systems and institutions that impact the lives of women and girls in order to make those lives more equitable. The Trustees are interested in funding organizations and programs for girls and women who are systemically underserved.

Term of Contract:

Funding can be requested for up to three years. First-time applicants are not eligible for multi-year funding.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Valentine Foundation primarily funds organizations serving the Greater Philadelphia area or that have national impact with a local connection.

Programs that solely provide direct service to women and girls, but do not result in meaningful social change, fall outside the Valentine Foundation mission and will not be funded, since they do not meet the Foundation's social change criteria.

The Valentine Foundation does not fund the following:
- Organizations that are not determined to be a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Scholarships
- Endowments
- Capital campaigns
- International initiatives
- Individuals
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Political organizations for political purposes

Pre-Application Information:

- The Letter of Intent process opens May 1, 2021.
- The deadline for submitting a Letter of Intent is June 30, 2021.
- From June to August the Valentine Foundation Trustees review all of the letters of intent; each Trustee selects a few specific proposals which conform to the guidelines.
- In September the Trustees convene for a two-day meeting to discuss each of the proposals identified for possible funding.
- The organizations that are selected at this stage of the process will be contacted by a Trustee, given feedback about the request and invited to submit a full proposal by (October 30th).
- The Trustees meet again in November to review the detailed proposals and make the final grant allocations.
- The grants are mailed by the end of November.
